Back!
I’m back from the post-prelims break and (hopefully) better than ever. Will be continuing to update this site as the As draw closer, and as usual, still open to any submissions from anyone – drop me a message via the Contact page. Hope your prelims didn’t treat you too badly, but at any rate, it’s back down to serious business for the last lap. Study hard people!
Alright, random links time.
If you find yourself snacking a lot when you study, why not eat something that’s good for you while you’re at it.
From the same site, 10 Ways to Make Your Study Sessions More Productive.
And finally, two articles worth reading: How to Study and Hacking Knowledge.
I’ll leave it at that for now. And we all have to get back to mugging. D:

L3s: Urban Geography
Updated: 07/10/07
Changelog: Added in a section for urban transport
Examples to use for Urban Geog to get your L3 marks! I’m sure there are much more, but these are the ones that I could find, but if you think there’s something really worth adding in here, do leave a comment!
I need to make a qualifier here. Manila may or may not be primate, depending on how you look at it. The fact remains that Manila City is not the largest in Philippines; rather, that honour goes to Quezon City, with Manila trailing a far second.
This stems from the fact that the Philippines has a rather confusing way of dividing their country into regions, provinces, cities, municipalities and barangays. That said, it is the National Capital Regions (NCR) – also known as the Manila Metro, or, simply, Manila (without ”city”) - that is primate so Manila (not the city) is, may be considered a “primate region” – that, of course, depending on what you’re comparing it to. It’s primate compared to the next city outside the NCR – but that confuses us even more because the NCR is home to around 11.3 million people. The next largest region is CALABARZON which is home to some 9.3 million people. Simple math would tell you that 11.3 million is barely twice 9.3 million. So is Manila primate? Your call.
My opinion? Use Bangkok as an example. It’s some 21 times larger than the next largest city, Nonthaburi. Can’t go wrong there.

Winding Down
End of prelims almost in sight for most of us! Hope it went well for most of you people out there, now on to the next big thing which is, of course, the As. These past few weeks have been hectic for me, and I guess I’ll be slowing down work on the site for a while to get over the incredibly stressful month. Thanks again for spreading the word, for the encouragement and the support – you guys are awesome. Take a break before you get back on the mugging track again!
Until the next time, cheers and take care y’all.

Physical Geography: Cues
A list of cue questions and pointers that might be helpful in revising physical geography.
Update: They’re all on one page now. I removed some useless points from Hydro (so I could fit it on one page), and included a download of a .zip of all three files.

Urban/Population Geography Summaries
by Pear Reimin (more notes over at her site)
Update: Population geography notes now in .zip format. If anyone has any idea why the original .doc is a whopping 2mb large, do tell me. If it helps, I converted it from a .docx. Leave a comment if you have any ideas, thanks!
These files are rather huge and amount to around 30 pages each. But they provide excellent overviews if you haven’t studied these two topics of human geography at all. ;)

Please Don’t Die
Hey all. Just figured I would post something since I was updating anyway. It’s been a rather productive week as you can see from the output over the last few days. I still have some notes from random friends that need to be uploaded, and I promise I’ll get these up by tomorrow. Just FYI they’re for economics (globalization) and geography (urban and population overviews).
That said, I’d like to thank the people that have left comments or messages in my mail to tell me how great you find this site. Thanks once again! And this week I’ve passed 2,500 hits with more than 500 on Wednesday – it’s pretty freaky but rather cool as well. You guys are awesome.
Before I go, some random sites that you might just find interesting.

How to Learn More and Study Less
All the best for Prelims! (Oh and just in case you wanted/needed to know, I’ve made changes to the macroeconomics cheatsheets and the latest essay outline – very minor ones that don’t really warrant a full-blown update, so if you’re that OC, feel free to download them again.)
Edit: New category - ”Essay”. Three guesses where that brings you.

Macroeconomics Essay Outlines 2
NJC Prelims 06
Thanks to Chloe, Iwan and Jun How for helping me look through these.
Q3) In times of recession, a decrease in tax will induce spending and through the multiplier process add to income and create more jobs.
Discuss this argument and consider whether it necessarily implies that it would be better to reduce tax. [25]
Q5)
“China’s economy last year achieved a highly impressive growth rate of around 9%. Domestic consumption and domestic investment continued to form the dominant source of growth. The true inflation rate is probably above 5%. The economy is overheated” (The Straits Times, January 26, 2004)
Discuss the effectiveness of various government policies that could be used to deal with the ‘overheated economy’. [25]

Math Sites
John von Neumann once said, “Young man, in mathematics you don’t understand things. You just get used to them.” But that has nothing to do with this post, apart from the fact that it’s about math, and one of history’s greatest mathematicians said that. Anyway, the following sites are great.
1. H2 Mathematics Applets
If we took everything at face value we’d probably be screwed. This site is awesome if not painful on the eyes. If your concepts are a bit weak, these applets would probably help you visualize things with a bit more ease.
2. MathWorld
Everything you would practically (and impractically) need to know for math can probably be found here.
3. The Integrator
Three guesses what it does. (Input takes some getting used to though.)
4. Calc101.com
Alright this site does a whole lot of stuff. It’s best you explore yourself. Some functions need a paid password, though.
Much thanks to the RJC Math Department for these links

Cheatsheets: Macroeconomic Objectives
Overviews on the four macroeconomic policies (excluding exchange rates), pretty comprehensive, but additions, corrections and comments most welcome as usual.
Also note that the bottom corner of the window under Consequences that corresponds to external long run effects does not actually refer to the latter (except for BOP), but rather contains points that may be useful to note in discussing the issue.

Updates-of-sorts
Alright. This has been a rather unproductive week for me, as you might have gathered, but I promise you that I’ll have some notes up by tomorrow when I get my laptop back. Cross my heart and hope to die (alright, maybe not). All of that, of course, is a rather roundabout way of saying I haven’t done much this week.
Anyway, hope y’all are coping fine even with prelims up and about, and I’m heartened to see the awesome jump in visits from who knows where. I’ve almost got a thousand hits as I’m typing this and it’s immensely gratifying – which you all know is an euphemism for ego-boosting. So, much thanks to all who’ve been keeping this site busy and useful – you guys rock. Show some love and leave a comment sometime. :) Study hard this week during the break!
Just a random note before I retreat to my scheduled doldrums, if you people want to read up more about globalization for econs, you might want to download the summary I did for economic geography. Though not entirely relevant, it, as I hear, comes in useful at times.
